We have visited Alaska on a couple of previous cruises, but this was the
first time we were to try out the one-way route by flying to Anchorage.
Usually some of the best priced Alaska cruises are the one-way cruises.
After a check with Alaska Airlines, I
found a $200 fare that would take us from Seattle to Anchorage one-way.
That's what made it possible for us since usually the air fare to Anchorage
is quite fierce. I'm glad I checked with Alaska Airlines or we
wouldn't have done the trip.
A very nice thing about this trip also was that the ship left on a Monday
and returned on a holiday Monday. So we were able to fly out on Friday
afternoon, May 21 and spend 3 nights at the
Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness
Lodge and still have a 7 night cruise on a one week vacation.
We mostly like to have independence when traveling, so we booked the
Princess McKinley directly and had a rental car set when we arrived in
Anchorage. The drive out of town was about 2 1/2 hours to the lodge.
We spend the next 3 days in and around Denali National and State Parks.
I took many pictures of the area, click on the pictures below to see them
and more review.
A view towards Mt. McKinley as we were driving up the road to the lodge
after arriving in Anchorage. This is in Denali State Park.
The next day we drove to Denali National Park
and enjoyed many views like this along the way.

We had three glacier days on our trip. The first one was the day of
embarkation, we arrived in Whittier where we were to meet up with the Sun
Princess, and took a glacier cruise on a local tour boat for the
afternoon. The next day, we returned to College Fjord / Prince
William Sound on the Sun Princess, then the next day we spent in Glacier
Bay. This picture is aboard the
Klondike Express. from
our day cruise from Whittier.
