The Ports of Call

Skagway

The White Pass Yukon Route Railway trip is a nice thing to do when visiting Skagway, we did it on a trip a few years back when we were on Galaxy.  This time, we went right to the ranger station, very close to the port, and joined in on a walking tour of town.

Across the street from the ranger station is a Starbucks, so we stopped for some refreshment.

Some people visit the Red Onion for refreshment and fun :)

The main drag is a very pleasant place for a stroll and shop.  Many of these buildings are originals with updates.  There is an internet cafe on one of the side streets a block or two up.

If your feet get tired, there are some fit folks ready to peddle you about.

There's a Starbucks right across from the Ranger Station, a nice way to relax after the walking tour :) He's a two-fisted caffeine fiend ! hehe

Hey ! Where's my mocha?

Sun Princess in Skagway

After our walking tour, I headed back to the Sun Princess then Stephen headed off for a nice hike up the hills near town to an alpine lake.

Juneau

We were in port at Juneau with a Holland America ship.  We docked in town, lots of shops, bars, restaurants right at the port area.  One of the best shopping opportunities and a nice day's stroll.  You can find kiosks here also offering excursions, and a bus that will take you to Mendenhall Glacier.

We chose to visit some shops then take the bus over to Mendenhall Glacier.  We met up at the Visitor Center to do a guided hike offered by the Park Service.

We met up at the Visitor Center for a walking tour, it was a very small group with 2 or 3 parks people taking us.  The guided walks are free by the way.

Even if you stay on ship you get close up and personal with the Alaskan wildlife :) oh and they liked the halibut but not the shrimp hehe
