Puerto
Montt, Chile |
| We had just spent a few days in the Lake District of Chile,
just north of Puerto Montt. We took this opportunity to just stroll around the town
and pick up an extra memory stick for my camera. From those who did do excursions
here, it sounded like a tour that included an authentic Chilean lunch was well reviewed.
Chile is inexpensive to go out to eat, and lovely dishes. Some excursions
went to see the Osorno Volcano .. you can get some glimpses of this towering mountain in
the backdrop of Puerto Montt. |

Hi Mom,
Just a quick note, we are at our first port stop, the ship has been great
today is our first cloudy day since we arrived but still warm enough for
a t-shirt.
We were surprised and delighted to get an invitation to dine at the
Captain's
table last night, its quite the production. You have to meet up with the
social hostess prior, given drinks and waiters have them follow you to
dinner
when its time. The Captain provided the wine and drinks for us and a rose.
The waiters even poured the cream for coffee, bread etc. things you usually
just pick off the table. It was fun! Not sure why we were chosen I think
may be that we have done 7 cruises now with Celebrity, it was the first
formal night. Also they are providing free photos of us at the table which
we should receive under the door today.
Our regular dining table is mostly people from Montreal! There are many
Canadians on board, Chileans and we met a nice family from Argentina. Its
a smaller ship than the ones you have been on with us, its about half the
size of Radiance of the Seas or Galaxy so its easier to meet and run into
people during the day, we have met some very nice folks. We are glad we
studied some Spanish before the trip because many of the passengers are
Spanish speaking and we have interesting conversations. For example, I
was trying to explain to the Argentine family that most people in Canada
live in the South of the country because the north is cold, I was able to
say it in Spanish and was quite pleased... Of course its opposite here,
most people don't live in the South since it is colder.
We are going to the Chilean Fjords tomorrow and then Straits of Magellan..
it will be very much like Alaska, glaciers, mountains much like the Rockies
it is actually the Southern part of the Andes range.
Its a bit cool for the swimming pool but the jacuzzi are open on deck maybe
well sit in them and watch the mountains go by.
I sang at Karaoke last night, it was fun and reminded me of when we did
it on Radiance the first time when we went together.
There are lots of internet cafes in Chile and the prices are as low as 60
cents us an hour .. the most expensive is two dollars an hour .. the ship
is fifty cents a minute so I try to write from ports... Ok well head back
to the ship soon and try to write from Usuaiah or Puerto Arenas.. the cities
at the bottom of the world, this is where the expedition boats head for
Antarctica.
I{ll write when I get a chance,
love,
Tina |
